    David Horning, Water Cooler Comedy

Lead With Laughs: Use Humor To Put The 'Human' In HR

We’ve been programmed to believe that "work isn't the time or place to laugh,” but this outdated adage is demotivating, destructive, and a culture killer, especially in a post-pandemic world where employees are looking for organizations who invest in their happiness.

Not only can humor add some levity to our days, it connects us on a more human level, engages our teams, and inspires the outside-of-the-box thinking that solves outside-of-the-box problems. As the uncertainty of the 21st century workplace looms, creativity and collaboration are vital to culture, but change is scary.

By being open to laughing about our fears, challenges, and mistakes, we give ourselves permission to grow, both as individuals and as teams, starting with a simple mindset shift that EVERYONE is capable of. You don't even have to be funny to do it!

David is the founder of Water Cooler Comedy, the creator of the 8-week leadership program "7 Steps To Reframe Retention And Create A Killer Culture," and he continues to work with the best and the brightest to build top workplaces with energizing and engaging conversations that have been shared with audiences from around the country. His successes include: Consumers Credit Union, ShurTech Brands, Dolce Hotels, KPMG, HR Leadership Group Of Northeast Ohio, SHRM, DisruptHR, Peppercomm, BLASTmedia, and The Training Associates (TTA), to name a few.

Outside of leadership, David has performed at comedy clubs and in comedy festivals across the country, including the New York Comedy Festival, and he hosts the podcast "You Can't Laugh At That," on which he interviews comedians who have been featured on late night and Comedy Central, as well as the unconventional leaders at top workplaces.
